Obituary For Steven Thomas Shreve

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Steven Shreve, who departed this world on January 6, 2024. He left us peacefully, surrounded by loved ones.

Steve was born on December 12, 1966, in Philippi, WV and was the son of William Holmes Shreve and Nellie (James) Shreve. He grew up in Elkins, WV and attended Ohio University and then New York University, where he earned his law degree. Steve’s career in law was dedicated to helping others dealing with difficult circumstances.

A lengthy illness took Steve away from us far too soon, leaving a void that can never be filled. He will be remembered for his kindness, intelligence, sense of humor, and his impact on the lives of those fortunate enough to have known him.

His love of nature and wildlife were exemplified by his own backyard bird and animal sanctuary. He was a long time member of the Pittsburgh National Aviary, and a frequent visitor to the Beechwood Farms Nature Reserve in Fox Chapel, Pennsylvania. Vacations were always planned around viewing and communing with nature.

Steve is survived by his wife, Shari Kozup, children Savannah Shreve Bourquin (Rob and his daughter Ella) and Garrett Shreve both from a former marriage, step children Benjamin Kozup (his children Maya, Benny and Luke) and Jessica Kozup. Steve cherished his role as a parent and leaves behind a legacy of love, guidance, and precious memories with his beloved children. Steve is also survived by siblings Tim Shreve (Becky), Mary Alice Shreve (TJ), Sophie Demchik (Michael), Patricia Shreve (Rob), nephew Jason Collett (with whom he had a special bond), and a multitude of extended family and friends. Steve is preceded in death by his parents, and siblings Sue Isner, and Bill Shreve.

In accordance with Steve's wishes, there will be no formal funeral service. The family appreciates the outpouring of condolences but requests privacy during this difficult time. There will be a private celebration of life with details to come.

The family kindly requests that memorial donations be made to The Audubon Society of Western Pennsylvania, Animal Friends on Camp Horne Road, or the Pittsburgh National Aviary in memory of Steven Thomas Shreve.

Steve's memory will forever live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to have shared in his journey.

May Steve rest in peace.
