Obituary For Reed J. Lafferty

Reed J. Lafferty, age 53 passed away unexpectedly in his hometown of Pittsburgh, PA on March 19, 2024. Preceded in death by his parents Ronda (Browarsky) Lafferty and John Lafferty. He leaves behind a sister Nicole (Joseph) Emanuelo.

As a young child, Reed had a unique love & passion for motor vehicles. This obsession with cars, motorcycles, and TRUCKS started a very long career as a mechanic, which led to him being self-employed, as well as co-owner of Jack Lafferty Truck Parts in the Strip District. Working alongside his beloved father for over 25 years, the business became a staple for tremendous service in the region. Since 2011, as a member of Teamsters Local 249, he had an opportunity to become Picture Car Coordinator for the film, television, and movie industry here in western PA.

Reed had a uniquely kind, sincere, and generous spirit that went beyond his family. He was very well-known in the community for helping others. For instance, he worked with the Teamsters for the Make-a-Wish Foundation. Over the past 23 years, Reed was a member of the Masonic Dallas Lodge 231.

With his willingness to always help a friend in need and to make new friends along the way, he has truly touched so many lives in so many different ways. He was a very soft-spoken man with a huge heart of pure gold that was larger than life with a quick wit & always an endearing smile. If you were, friends with Reed you would know deep in your heart and soul that you are a forever friend.

Reed has left an indelible mark on the landscape of Pittsburgh - There are not many people in the City or the region who are not aware of Reed’s unselfish, genuine giving heart. He will be forever remembered and dearly missed. Heaven has a new mechanic reporting for duty - our dear brother & friend….Reed Lafferty may he “Ride Free” into eternity.

Friends will be received at the Rex T. Smith Funeral Home, 2860 Perrysville Ave, North Side on THURSDAY, March 28th from 1-7 PM.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Make A Wish Foundation in Reed’s name.
