Obituary For Elaine Kaner Ginsberg
Elaine "Micki" Kaner Ginsberg, Ph.D., of Key West, Florida, passed away at the home of her son and daughter-in-law in Pittsburgh, PA on August 9, 2024 while in the presence of loving family.
Micki, formerly of Morgantown, WV, was born on February 29, 1936 to Alexander and Lee Kaner of New York City. She is survived by her older brother and sister-in-law, Morton and Harriett Kaner of New Rochelle, NY. Micki is also survived by her 3 children and their spouses: Bob (Patti), Michael (Cathy), and Meryl (Brenda Thompson); 6 grandchildren: Corey, Lizzie (Stephen Raney), and Max (Addison) Ginsberg, Kinsey Ginsberg, and Abby and Kel Thompson; and 3 great-grandchildren: Otis and Amos Raney and Nora Ginsberg. Micki is also survived by numerous cousins and her loving niece and nephew, Ellen and Charles Kaner.
Micki spent her academic career at West Virginia University where she was a professor of English and Women's Studies, served as the chair of the Department of English and was appointed Vice-President of Academic Affairs during her tenure at WVU.
Micki spent her retirement in Key West where she lived since 2000. She was an avid tennis fan who attended numerous tennis tournaments and loved to travel nationally and internationally. She was an active resident of Key West where she volunteered, played ukulele and trivia and greatly enjoyed life with her numerous wonderful groups of friends.
A celebration of life will be held at a future date in Key West. Time and place will be announced to those interested in attending.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or West Virginia University Foundation.
